Eckhard Schmitt

is a hotelier. He learned his profession from scratch, is chef, butcher, manager, restaurant expert, has the Bavarian proprietor certificate (Wirtebrief) and is a recognized wine specialist. Since more than 30 years he has been leading hotels, and since more than 12 years he is working in the Hotel Tölzer Hof which he made a mecca of mountaineers in the region and which supports him.

Since about 12 years he is roaming around the world's mountains, met interesting people and made a lot of friends.

He could look down from many renowned summits of the Alps like Matterhorn, Watzmann east face, Piz Palü, Grossglockner, Weisshorn, Mont Blanc and could enjoy several classic climbs and traverses like Windlegergrat, Louroihorn-Jungfrau or Bianco crest. Canyoning and ice climbing is nothing new to him. He has climbed eighteen 4000 m peaks, four 5000 m, and three 6000 m peaks, including a first climb of a new route. His biggest success was the climb of Ama Dablam and the sixth highest mountain of the world, Cho Oyu (8201 m) in Tibet in 1999.
